| |  | | | SAM WARREN was named Man of the Meeting at the Vivaldi British Supermoto Championship on Sunday 17 April 2005.
Sam, 22 of Belper, Derbyshire took the title for his incredible race recovery after his bike flew off a bend on the first lap in a 650cc class race at Lyd International Raceway in Kent, leaving him in last position.
He turned disaster into success for his SR Off-Road team as he got back on his bike and spent the rest of the race overtaking most of the field He finished sixth, leaving the youngster fourth overall in the competition.
Race judges awarded him Man of the Meeting plus a cheque for £1000.
"He was excellent," said SR Off-Road Manager Mick Spencer. "We expect 100% at SR Off-Road and Sam always gives it."
He added: "Sam's performance was incredible as he had sprained his ankle badly only three days earlier. We had to keep the news quiet because we didn't want other teams taking advantage.
"He was off work all day on Friday and had his leg on ice for all that time. He was determined to race - you'd have to kill him to stop him!"
Sam also finished third overall in the 450cc class behind world-class champs Matt Winstanley and Frederick Fiorentino.
