SR OFF-ROAD, the Matlock-based motorbike racing team are now set for their first foray into international competition.

Rider Sam Warren’s success at the Vivaldi British Supermoto Championship has helped bankroll the team for competition around Europe.

Warren, of Belper, Derbyshire, was awarded Naturally Best Rider of the Day award and the prize money will help fund SR’s World Championship adventure.

The SR / DCR Husaberg rider will compete in the S1 class. Warren and the team will be contesting four rounds with possibly more to follow.

Warren said that the award had spurred the team on to step up to the World Championship. “The Rider of the Day award came along just at the right time and from this we’ve managed to secure some more backing from sponsors and family which has enabled us to commit to four events at this stage.”

International competition will give SR Off-Road an opportunity to demonstrate they have what it takes, but Warren is taking things one step at a time.

“The first objective is to qualify in S1 and if all goes well pick up a few points, anything else will be a bonus. Our aim is to demonstrate that we are good enough for the World Championship and see where things lead us.”

Warren’s programme may include round two in Belgium (6-8 May), the Czech Republic (22 May), Austria (19 June) and Germany (10 July).
